A long term vision:

If you are into urban gardening, you may have heard of the edible schoolyard project begun by Alice Waters in San Francisco. We hope to do something similar here, giving urban kids a chance to nurture plants and see living things grow.

Check out the edible shcoolyard at:

See us on google earth!

If you have google earth installed on your pc, you can search the zip code 40212, turn on the street identification check box and find west main street and 25th street. Go north 2 blocks to rowan ave and you will see the two NH lots along 25th street on the right side. Neighborhood house has a new building at 25th and rowan, so only a portion of the land is able to be developed into a garden. Check it out!

See you soon at neighborhood house!

Garden plans for Spring 2008

Neighborhood House is a community center in the west end Portland neighborhood in Louisville KY. The center is located 2 blocks north of main street on 25th street and Rowan ave. In existence since the 1890's, they have after school and summer education programs, daycare, and nutrition services for their members.

They have two areas of unused land that they wish to turn into a garden for educating the children about growing and eating healthier foods.

We will be posting photos of the site, and give updates about our evolving plans to introduce nature back into this urban site.

Please visit http://www.nhky.org/ to learn more about neighborhood house.

If you have ideas, time, skills, plants, fruit trees, or berry bushes that you can donate, contact us at neighborhood house.
